Location and Working Environment
- This position is hybrid and will require you to be onsite 2 to 3 days per week in Leiden, Netherlands office.

Purpose & Scope
- You are responsible for implementing the medical strategy (via the Astellas Medical Impact model) within your assigned therapeutic area at the affiliate level. You coordinate and execute medical and scientific activities to (i) understand the local external environment and data gaps, (ii) translate insights into strategies and actions, and (iii) ensure that key stakeholders receive the information they need to support the safe and appropriate use of Astellas products.
- Provide strategic expertise by offering medical and scientific leadership across affiliate Medical Affairs deliverables and cross functional initiatives.
- Demonstrate matrix leadership by building and maintaining strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure affiliate MA activities address local needs and advance scientific understanding of Astellas products throughout their lifecycle.
- Engage external stakeholders to enhance understanding of compounds in development, disease areas, and the safe and effective use of Astellas products.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including brand teams, to support affiliate business objectives.
- Ensure value and scientific rigor by delivering MA activities that are scientifically sound, clinically relevant, and completed on time and within budget.
Role and Responsibilities
- External environment analysis, maintain deep scientific expertise, assess unmet needs, and gather/share competitive intelligence through engagement with external stakeholders.
- Medical insight generation, collaborate cross functionally to collect, interpret, and integrate medical insights into strategic planning at affiliate and regional levels.
- Strategy translation, define and execute the Astellas Medical Impact (AMI) plan, ensuring alignment with global and local strategies and delivering compliant, on time medical activities.
- Global medical collaboration, support development, regulatory, clinical operations, and pharmacovigilance teams, contributing scientific expertise and operational input.
- Cross functional partnership, provide scientific leadership to commercial teams, review materials for compliance, support launches, and deliver internal training.
- Stakeholder information support, generate and communicate data to HCPs and payers, manage medical education materials, engage KEEs, support research funding processes, and ensure full compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in health related Science or equivalent.
- Suitable candidates from academia with strong expertise in the therapeutic area — including clinical or hospital practice, clinical development, and experience in designing, executing, and reporting clinical trials — can be considered.
- Understanding of the drug development process as well as commercialization.
- Preferably, a good understanding of the dynamics of a large corporate environment and comfort working within matrix reporting lines.
- Knowledge and strong understanding of, and ability to comply with, industry regulations and standards.
- Fluent in Dutch.
Preferred Qualifications
- MD, PhD, or PharmD qualification.
- Doctoral degree (MD, PhD in a health related science, or PharmD).
- Contributing to and supporting onboarding and development activities for colleagues, for example by acting as a buddy, mentor, or coach.
- Demonstration of successfully completed delegated responsibilities, such as acting as a back up for a Therapy Area Lead during key internal or external meetings.
