The Position
Internship Master Student Innovation in Healthcare
Internships at Roche Diagnostics Netherlands
Who we are
At Roche Diagnostics, we develop diagnostic tests, instruments and digital solutions with the power to transform healthcare for people around the globe. Our core business is the discovery, development and manufacturing of in vitro tests for the diagnosis of various diseases that include oncology, diabetes, cardiology, neurology, and many others. In vitro diagnostic tests can detect disease, conditions and infections done on samples such as blood or tissue.
We are transforming healthcare with innovation and collaboration. Using an evidence-based approach, our insights-driven digital health solutions aim to support patient care. We have a rich heritage in healthcare innovation and care reinvention. We can leverage diagnostic data and turn them into insights. These insights in combination with our diagnostic innovations, allow informed (clinical) decision making and improve healthcare.

Optimizing Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) Implementation in Clinical Practice: A Focus on Mass Spectrometry Technology
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) is essential for tailoring individual patient therapy to ensure efficacy and minimize toxicity, especially for drugs with narrow therapeutic windows like immunosuppressants, antibiotics, anti-epileptics, and antifungals. The launch of the cobas Mass Spectrometry solution extends our in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) TDM portfolio, offering enhanced sensitivity and specificity crucial for vulnerable patient cohorts (e.g., transplant recipients, critically ill).
This project aims to provide deep insights into the current landscape of TDM utilization, specifically investigating the use of Mass Spectrometry technology in routine clinical practice. Your key objectives will include:
-
Mapping TDM variability: Gaining an overview of TDM testing variability across hospitals and private labs, identifying patient cohorts and clinical use cases where TDM is currently embedded, partially used, or absent.
-
Stakeholder analysis: Investigating the involvement of General Practitioners (GPs) in TDM follow-up and assessing the perceived value of TDM on Mass Spectrometry technology among experts (e.g., ICU specialists, Neurologists, Toxicologists).
-
Analyzing ordering patterns: Understanding the geographical and clinical differences in TDM ordering, with a focus on antibiotics and anti-epileptics.
-
Local data deep dive: Analyzing local TDM data (use cases, accessibility, clinician knowledge) in the target market.
Your work will directly support the strategic market adoption of an advanced TDM technology, leading to more informed treatment decisions and ultimately, improved patient outcomes.
