We are looking for a Global Logistics Senior Specialist

The Global Logistics Senior Specialist oversees the efficient and timely planning and distribution of pharmaceutical products such as raw materials, vectors, patient materials, and finished products from our warehouses, clinical trial sites, and decentralized manufacturing locations. This role establishes and maintains partnerships with transportation providers and ensures smooth operations. The specialist supports various stakeholders, including internal teams and external customers, ensuring exceptional service delivery and customer satisfaction. The role is based in Leiden, the Netherlands and has a global focus.


  • Maintain relationships with couriers, freight companies, and other third-party logistics partners.
  • Manage global supply chain and logistics activities for drug substance, drug product, clinical trial products, commercial finished goods, medical devices, and R&D samples.
  • Coordinate transportation services to ensure timely delivery.
  • Monitor transportation providers’ performance on key metrics.
  • Manage billing processes, deviations, and day-to-day performance of global logistics providers.
  • Oversee reverse logistics for cold chain shipments.

Customs & Trade:

  • Ensure trade compliance (incoterms, HS codes, export control, sanctions screening).
  • Manage customs brokers for smooth import/export processes.
  • Ensure proper documentation and tariff codes with customs partners.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on logistics performance.
  • Initiate, write, and manage SOPs to standardize and professionalize operations.
  • Conduct regular audits of logistics processes and partners.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with internal teams and logistics service providers.
  • Act as a liaison between Global Transportation & Logistics and other departments.
  • Train regional teams on logistics processes and protocols.

Risk Management:

  • Develop and manage risk and contingency plans for high-stakes logistics.

Job requirements


  • Degree in Science, Business, Supply Chain, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in logistics/supply chain management or operations.
  • Proven experience in warehouse operations, outbound logistics, or similar roles within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
  • Experience in an international and regulated environment, managing carriers and customs agents in Europe.
  • Knowledge of GxP, specifically GDP.
  • Expertise in cold-chain management.
  • Proficiency in English; a second language is a plus.
  • Preferred certifications such as APICS, Six Sigma, or PMP.


  • Proven experience in warehouse operations, outbound logistics, or similar roles within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with cultural awareness to effectively work with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify process gaps and propose innovative solutions.
  • Detail-oriented approach to ensure accuracy in picking, packing, and shipping operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with inventory management software is a plus.
  • High motivation to learn and adapt to evolving logistics needs.
  • Strong integrity, business partnering skills, and ability to manage complex logistics projects.
