Location and Working Environment


  • This position follows our hybrid working model.
  • The role requires a blend of home and minimum 2 - 3 days per week in our Leiden office.  Flexibility may be required in line with business needs. Candidates must be located within a commutable distance of the office.

Purpose & Scope

  • As the Demand Manager you are  responsible for creating complete and accurate demand plans that serve as the basis for all supply and inventory planning processes, including MTP, S&OP, and Supply Operations. This role covers all products within an assigned cluster of markets—either affiliates or license business—and acts as the key link between local and commercial organizations. While coordinating closely with these stakeholders, the Demand Manager ensures that management remains accountable for the final Demand Plan used across all Supply Chain Planning activities.
  • You will drive adherence to global standards for Astellas Demand & Supply processes within the assigned community. In addition, the role supports and initiates improvement projects aimed at enhancing both the efficiency and the effectiveness of these processes.


Role and Responsibilities


  • Work with stakeholders such as marketing, brand teams, PPM, and local organizations to ensure timely, complete, and accurate demand plans in IBP, including compassionate use, clinical, and sampling programs where applicable.
  • Own the Demand Plan and leads the demand planning process with commercial partners, ensuring alignment and validation with commercial leadership.
  • Analyse demand trends and events—such as pricing or reimbursement changes, parallel trade, regulatory shifts, LOE, NPI, and tenders—and incorporate them into planning systems while driving scenario discussions and contingency decisions.
  • Compare the Demand Plan with other demand sources (budget, commercial forecasts, in‑market consumption data) to identify risks and opportunities for optimization.
  • Support stable supply by providing demand insights, monitoring actual sales versus plan, addressing inventory issues with country teams, and managing demand to minimize patient impact.
  • Drive process efficiency through statistical forecasting, collaboration with analytics teams, continuous process improvement, and monitoring key performance indicators such as forecast accuracy, bias, and on‑time ordering.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, a life‑science field, a technical field, or equivalent.
  • Proven knowledge of Supply Chain Planning and Operations Management.
  • Basic understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, including relevant regulations (GxP) Good Practice.
  • Proficiency in SAP IBP and MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Teams).
