Senior Biomarker Scientist Immuno-Oncology

Your new role:

As a Senior Scientist in the Biomarker Discovery and Development (BDD) Department you will help drive our biomarker and drug development efforts in immuno-oncology. You will be responsible for defining and executing biomarker strategies in early proof-of-concept clinical trials of novel therapeutic candidates. Leveraging your expertise in disease and drug target biology, you will drive the development of a diverse array of biomarker assays used to confirm drug target engagement, understand mechanisms of action, and monitor patient responses.

This is a cross-functional role that involves close interaction with colleagues from various disciplines including in vitro and in vivo Pharmacology, Bioanalytics, Bioinformatics, Clinical Development, and Regulatory Affairs as well as with external vendors.

Success in this role requires a thorough understanding of immunology, oncology disease biology, and the development of biomarker strategies in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting. Demonstrable success in generating and integrating biomarker plans into clinical strategies is a key requirement in this role, as is creativity and willingness to explore new technologies.

Your main responsibilities

  • Acting as the designated biomarker member of project teams at different phases of (pre)clinical development.
  • Developing and implementing biomarker plans aligned with project and clinical study needs.
  • Identifying appropriate technologies, analytical requirements, and the ideal vendors for fit-for-purpose biomarker assays.
  • Writing biomarker workplans, reports, scientific publications, as well as relevant sections of regulatory filings and clinical trial-related documents.
  • Contributing to biomarker data analysis generated in research and clinical contexts.
  • Leading biomarker assay outsourcing processes with external vendors and CROs.

Professional experience and expertise:

  • A PhD in Immunology or a related discipline.
  • A solid understanding of oncology disease biology.
  • A minimum of five years of post-graduate experience.
  • Experience developing biomarker strategies and analyzing human samples in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting.
  • Direct experience assessing and implementing a broad array of biomarker platforms and technologies, including flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry assays.
  • Experience with bi- or multi-specific therapeutics, cellular immunology assays, and functional genomics is a plus.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing external vendors for assay development/validation and clinical sample analysis (including contracting, study design, and management).
  • Proven ability to contribute to the writing and reviewing of scientific and regulatory documents.
