The Role:

Director, Pathology is responsible for leading and managing complex oncology focused research and clinical trial areas and teams within US Pathology Department (Anatomic and Digital Pathology). Implement global strategy across multifunctional teams, for accomplishment of critical milestones across clinical trials and preclinical projects/studies. Drive resource planning, budget and assay development within own department in line with strategic priorities. Provide pathology insights into TQS leadership in relation to research strategy and objectives. Drive cross-functional coordination/collaboration with internal and external (pharma partners, CRO’s and academic) stakeholders in support of ongoing projects. Hire, coach and develop R&I talent.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide anatomic pathology expertise (oncology focused) by both traditional slide evaluation (WSI), and by guiding the development and interpretation of advanced tissue-based assays, including predictive IHC markers, multiplex chromogenic and immunofluorescence panels, digital image analysis, and machine learning image projects to support Genmab research and clinical trials.
  • Engage laboratory teams in the U.S. and EU / Netherlands by providing guidance in development of IHC/IF single-plex/multi-plex assays and in situ hybridization (ISH)
  • Partner with digital pathology team, genomics and data scientists to develop and verify digital image analysis/AI algorithms and results from image analysis projects and correlate with genomic findings.
  • Interpret complex assays in clinical trials, including evaluation of various immunohistochemical stains for target screening and biomarker assessment.
  • Provide subject matter expertise representing Genmab in interactions with CROs and academic partners, influencing the development of IHC, ISH, genomic assays crucial for clinical endeavors.
  • Explore and implement new technologies, staying at the forefront of digital image analysis and tissue and blood-based assay development.
  • Perform, as needed, primary and/or peer review of tissue based pre-clinical toxicology studies and provide perspective on pre-clinical or clinical toxicity observations, assisting in design strategies to protect patient safety.

Requirements:

  • US Board Certified MD, MD/PhD with preferred subspecialties in Hematopathology or GYN pathology, or DVM, DVM/PhD degree in Pathology, with Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology and/or Clinical Pathology is required.
  • Work authorization in the U.S. required, additional work authorization in EU is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of postgraduate experience in the academia, biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Knowledge of the drug development process, including preclinical and clinical development, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with LIMS, digital/computational pathology platforms to characterize tumor features from H&E and IHC images.
  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven leadership skills managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast paced cross-functional team environment.

For US based candidates, the proposed salary band for this position is as follows:

$195,120.00---$292,680.00

The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation, such as discretionary bonuses and long-term incentives.
