The Role

The Senior Associate, Research Digital Solutions is a hands-on application engineer supporting laboratory systems, with a primary focus on the GeneData platform. This role combines user-facing support with technical configuration and maintenance of application environments.

You will work closely with scientists, subject matter experts, and vendors to implement enhancements through hands-on configuration, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve system usage and workflows. The role requires someone who enjoys operating across both user interaction and technical configuration, with a strong interest in laboratory processes.

Responsibilities

Act as the primary point of contact for research associates and scientists for lab applications, with a focus on the GeneData platform; triage, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents and service requests.

- Support and maintain laboratory applications such as:

  • GeneData Biologics / Screener / Expressionist
  • Waters NuGenesis LMS (ELN/SDMS)
  • Zontal SDMS

- Perform hands-on configuration and administration of applications, including:

  • User interfaces, workflows, templates, and system settings
  • Data structures and application configurations
  • Scheduled tasks and job monitoring

- Translate business needs into practical system configurations and improvements, working closely with scientific users and application vendors.

- Support and monitor system integrations, including:

  • Authentication and access (Active Directory)
  • File transfers (e.g., SFTP)
  • Data exchange interfaces (APIs, database connections)

- Assist in maintaining application environments (test, validation, production) in line with change management and GxP practices.

- Support enhancement requests and small-scale improvements, collaborating with vendors and internal stakeholders.

- Contribute to process improvements and basic automation (e.g., scripting, scheduled workflows) to increase efficiency and reduce manual work.

- Support system upgrades, patches, and routine maintenance activities.

- Provide user training, guidance, and documentation to support effective and compliant system usage.

- Collaborate with IT and other teams to support reliable system operation and data availability.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computer Science).

- Minimum 3+ years of experience in biotech/pharma or laboratory IT, preferably in a regulated (GxP) environment.

Experience with:

  • Application support and system administration
  • Laboratory systems (GeneData, ELN, SDMS, or similar platforms)
  • Supporting end users in research environments

Basic to solid understanding of:

  • Windows-based environments
  • Networking fundamentals
  • SQL/databases

Hands-on experience with:

  • User access management
  • Application configuration and support
  • Integration concepts (APIs, file-based interfaces, database connections)

- Experience with scripting or automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python) is a plus.

- Experience with PowerBI or reporting tools is a plus.

- Strong preference for candidates with experience in a laboratory or research environment, or demonstrated understanding of scientific workflows and data.
