Senior Research Associate, Organic & Medicinal Chemistry

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Research Associate Organic and M edicinal Chemistry, to join our dynamic team in the Discovery Department at Genmab. As a key member of our new chemical lab, you will play an essential role in supporting the development of Antibody Drug Conjugates (ADCs) in a fast-paced and innovative biotech environment. Your hands-on expertise in organic and medicinal chemistry will be crucial in executing experiments, synthesizing compounds, and optimizing processes to advance our r esearch and development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Optimization and Analysis: Conduct structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies and support the optimization of lead compounds. Utilize advanced analytical techniques, including HPLC, LC-MS, and NMR, to characterize and purify compounds.

  • Laboratory Operations: Perform hands-on laboratory work, including the execution of experiments and maintenance of lab equipment. Ensure high-quality data collection and adhere to laboratory protocols and best practices.

  • Compound Design and Synthesis: Assist in the development and synthesis of novel linkers and payloads to support ADC discovery and development projects. Apply medicinal chemistry principles to assist in designing compounds with optimal pharmacological properties and ensuring effective conjugation to Genmab’s antibody formats.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with chemists and cross-functional teams, including biologists and pharmacologists, to support research projects and achieve project milestones. Contribute to the planning and execution of experiments and provide technical support as needed.

  • Innovation and Improvement: Stay informed about the latest advancements in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. Apply innovative approaches to problem-solving and contribute to the improvement of laboratory techniques and procedures.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures, results, and analyses. Assist in the preparation of scientific reports and documentation for internal use.

  • Quality and Compliance: Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards. Participate in safety and compliance training as required .

Requirements

  • Educational Background: M aster’s degree in Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field. Relevant certifications or additional training in laboratory techniques are a plus.

  • Experience: > 3 years of hands-on experience in organic and medicinal chemistry within a laboratory setting. Proven ability to conduct experiments, synthesize compounds, and analyze data effectively.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in organic synthesis techniques and analytical methods, including NMR, MS, and HPLC. Experience with high-throughput screening and SAR analysis is desirable.

  • Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex data and derive actionable insights. Demonstrated ability to execute experiments independently and effectively.

  • Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Experience working with cross-functional teams is highly desirable.

  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced biotech environment with a proactive and flexible approach to work. Willingness to take on diverse tasks and responsibilities as needed.

  • Passion for Innovation: Enthusiasm for working in an innovative biotech setting and a commitment to supporting scientific research and development.
