Head of Project Engineering
The role can be done from any location in Europe or the US that is close to a GSK location

Job purpose:
This is a senior thought leadership role instrumental in influencing the strategic direction for GSK with respect to project engineering on large capital projects. They will define strategic direction in line with business goals including being instrumental in shaping and delivering the digitisation and sustainability ambitions of GSK. The role holder will apply a depth of technical knowledge across the engineering technical area and be recognised as ‘expert’ in at least one of the areas covered by the Engineering function both internally and externally. The Head of Project Engineering reports to the VP of Global Capital Projects (GCP) and is a core member of the GCP Leadership Team.
- The Head of Project Engineering will engage at a senior level in the business to provide technical direction in recognised area of expertise. They will also be expected to mentor employees across the business and in geographically large areas., beyond their function
- They will lead a group of other Senior Engineering Leaders and Engineering experts, many of whom will be global experts in their fields, in delivering the needs of the enterprise
- This role will drive the consist adherence to Engineering Standards and GSK Project Management Framework for the project engineering function within GCP
- Accountability for capability development and deployment of engineering directorship in all capital projects >£10m and required technical engineering resources
- Develop, direct and support multiple engineering teams in different geographies supporting the safe delivery, on time and on budget projects at the quality required by the business
- Work closely with technical authorities and standards custodians in the broader Engineering & EHS functions (including sustainability) to ensure all relevant standards are effectively implemented and compliance monitored on GCP led projects
Key responsibilities:
- Full accountability for ensuring the project engineering function is staffed and has the capability and capacity to support the GSK capital plan and any fast-track needs that may arise
- Leadership of the project engineering group, directing multiple teams, managers and associated project engineering staff
- Establish and manage key external arrangements to augment project engineering capability for GSK
- Research and introduce innovative ways of delivering project engineering delivery excellence including digital and technology enhanced methodologies
- Support in the direction of the delivery strategy for the projects comprising the portfolios with a specific focus on project engineering
- Development and delivery of an annual business and improvement plan to meet the business demands whilst improving safety, reliability and cost efficiency of delivery
- Represent projects on key strategy and steering teams and in GSC level meetings on strategy and delivery as require
- Ensure compliant delivery and direct assurance processes to ensure all requirements for safe, secure and ethical practice are in place and in operation
- Represent GSK and project engineering with external bodies at the highest level
- Understand the impact of cGMP on the design & delivery of projects and ensure alignment with all regulatory requirements and the QMS
Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering; ideally advanced degree such as master’s or similar in engineering, construction or project management (area of specialisation: Engineering, Life Sciences, Project Management in capital)
- 15 years plus experience in design & delivery of high- tech life science projects
- Deep and broad understanding of the capital project lifecycle from Design to Operation
- Direct experience of delivering complicated construction projects
- Understanding of the economics and commercial realities of construction and contracting
- Successful and effective direct leadership of a similar function comprising project engineering directors and subject matter experts
- Direction of multiple large engineering teams in projects across multiple geographies in a functional leadership role
- Direct experience of leading engineering teams in global and diverse cultures
