Job Purpose:

The Medical Scientific Expert:

  • Provides an authoritative opinion within the specific area (respiratorty) on medical, scientific and ethical matters to support GSK NL, enabling the evidence-based use of GSK medicines and compliance with the relevant statutory requirements, providing certification where required.
  • Coordinates and utilizes specialist knowledge with brand aligned colleagues in formulating and implementing short- and long-term medical strategy for optimal patient benefit.
  • Effectively develops strong peer-to-peer strategic relationships with key External Experts and external organizations, (for vaccines: including governmental stakeholders) to ensure that GlaxoSmithKline retains a leading voice within the therapeutic area in NL, focusing on top EEs in the disease area.
  • Is the lead GSK expert on our brand and disease area by providing expertise to internal and external stakeholders to ensure decisions are based on relevant and up-to-date scientific data & knowledge
  • When applicable: provides indirect project leadership and support towards MSL’s.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and execution of the local Medical Affairs Plan of the Therapy/Disease areas in scope; consisting of but not limited to: scientific engagement activities, Healthcare Support Programs/ Patient Support Programs, Medical Need Programs, Medical Education programs
  • Planning and development of Scientific Engagement content and educational campaigns
  • Closely collaborate with regulatory, commercial, market access and clinical colleagues on pre-launch planning, strategic evidence generation and reimbursement strategies
  • Day to day collaboration with the Medical Affairs and Medical Governance teams to ensure maximum, up-to-date disease and brand knowledge, incl ensuring enterprise approach when needed.
  • Responsible for coordinating GSKs response to complaints from regulatory bodies and competitors – in close collaboration with the extended cross-functional brand team
  • Provide indirect project leadership and support the Scientific advisor (if applicable) and/or Medical Scientific Liaisons in preparing and delivering presentations for internal training programs and other materials and briefing sessions, ensuring scientific data and medical concepts are understood and consistent with promotional strategy
  • Develop content and present at appropriate meetings (advisory board meetings, investigator meetings, expert meetings, and CME meetings). Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of the therapy areas by reviewing the literature, discussions with key external experts and key stakeholders, gain insights from external experts and answer medical questions, participating in cross functional interactions, attending scientific congresses, etc.
  • Supporting scientific research and clinical studies (GSK sponsored/supported). Initiate gap analysis to identify needs for evidence generation studies. Ensure the right approval processes of GSK supported studies (ISSs), and the follow up during the life cycle of the research project in collaboration with the MSL
  • Provide scientific expertise in the management of Grants & Donations. Ensure the approval process and proper documentation, contracts and payments of G&Ds. Follow the procedures and follow up after the approval of the G&Ds.

Why You?

Qualifications:

  • MD, PhD or PharmD or clinical or scientific expertise (list of publications, PubMed) in respiratory area
  • In-depth proven education / background and knowledge of disease area (PhD in disease area or minimal experience of more than 5-7 years).
  • Minimum 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience. Experience of working in the required therapeutic area is a plus.
  • Proven experience in engaging in scientific exchange with external experts; ability to debate scientific /clinical evidence with external experts with a high level of quality and credibility.
  • Strong knowledge of the pharmaceutical governance environment.
  • Significant operational management experience (i.e. resource, budget, project evaluation).
  • Strong business mindset and ability to balance cross-functional objectives and manage ambiguity.
  • Excellent presentation and teaching skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective networking and collaboration skills.
