EVM Department:

The Engineering-Validation-Maintenance (EVM) department is a motivated and dynamic team responsible for the technical support of all utilities, production and laboratory areas and all involved equipment at the Janssen Vaccines & Prevention site in Leiden.

We work in an ambitious environment where we make great progress in developing our advanced therapies. Engineering has a large project portfolio to sustain/improve the existing environment. The Compliance group looks after the correct qualification and validation status of GMP critical equipment and processes. Furthermore, the compliance group is responsible for the overall quality and safety programs within EVM. The key-focus point of the maintenance groups (U&B, Automation and Equipment group) is asset maintenance management of all assets within JVP.

Job Description:

As Equipment Engineer, you play a meaningful role in the asset life cycle and will be primarily responsible to optimize the asset reliability and availability of the asset portfolio. You will define, deploy and coordinate maintenance activities to ensure compliance within GMP regulations as well as EHS standards (machine safety).

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of maintenance, engineering and operational specialists.

Introduces, improves and coordinates maintenance programs to achieve day-to-day objectives.

Sophisticated repair projects that improve production efficiencies by ensuring the reliability, performance, and accuracy of assets and manufacturing facilities in general.

Conducts routine machinery tests and evaluations of operational control standards to ensure conformance with engineering specifications and compliance with safety laws.

Contributes to the departmental goals by monitoring cost-effective, performance-based maintenance programs, leading engineering repair projects, and integrating testing procedures that minimize equipment failure risks.

Examines technical reports, technical memoranda, and other documents regarding equipment specifications, maintenance, and solving to find opportunities to improve outcomes.

Interact with peer functions throughout the organization to provide experienced knowledge to related support departments like; Operations, Automation, Process Engineering, Quality

Assurance to assure efficient and reliable technical support to our customers.

Coaches colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities.

The Equipment Engineer improves the team's potential by demonstrating outstanding leadership skills and is responsible for delivering high-quality within the complexity and dynamics of a research and development organization.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering or (bio)process engineering

Specific Knowledge and experience:

  • Strategic thinking: setting frameworks and goals and translating the departmental vision from the Business Cascade.

  • Experience in a maintenance organization preferably in biotechnology/pharmaceutical/process industry environment.

  • Experience with Lean methodology is preferred.

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Annex 1 and safety regulations.

  • High degree of accuracy, initiative, and independence.

  • Problem solving oriented with good analytical skills

  • People management skills: supportive leadership, change management skills, motivating and coaching, developing the individual and the team to a higher level.

  • Teamwork and communication: build positive relationships inside and outside the department.
