Johnson & Johnson Vision Groningen is specialized in the development, improvement, and manufacturing of state-of-the-art surgical ophthalmic products, mainly intraocular lenses. The facility consists of small and integrated Research, Development and Manufacturing teams that have strong track records.

We are searching for the best talent for Project Manager R&D New Product Introduction – Intraocular Lenses (IOL).

Purpose: The Project Manager R&D New Product Introduction – Intraocular Lenses (IOL) will be responsible for the end-to-end management of new intraocular lens development projects, from early concept and feasibility through design, industrialization, regulatory approval, and market introduction.

This role provides leadership to virtual, cross-functional project teams operating, with frequent collaboration with stakeholders in a.o. the United States. The Project Manager acts as the central integrator between R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Operations, Clinical, Marketing, and external partners to ensure successful delivery of complex medical device programs.

You will be responsible for:

  • Own and drive end-to-end NPI projects for intraocular lenses (project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource needs).

  • Lead virtual cross-functional teams across different time zones.

  • Ensure full compliance with Design Control, Risk Management, and Change Management requirements.

  • Oversee creation, maintenance, and approval of project documentation throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Ensure adherence to GMP, QSR, ISO 13485, and applicable internal procedures.

  • Support regulatory submission activities in close collaboration with Regulatory Affairs and Quality.

  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with global stakeholders, including regular interaction with EU, US and APAC based teams.

  • Facilitate effective governance, escalation, and decision-making within a matrix organization.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, Life Sciences, Physics, Optics, or a related technical discipline.

  • 5–8 years of relevant project management experience in a regulated, technology-driven environment.

  • Demonstrated experience managing medical device NPI projects, preferably involving implantable or ophthalmic products.

  • Proven ability to lead global, virtual project teams across multiple time zones.

  • Strong knowledge of Project Management, Design Control, and Risk Management.

  • Working knowledge of GMP, QSR, ISO 13485, and medical device development processes.

  • High proficiency in MS Project & MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for project planning, reporting, and stakeholder communication.

  • Experience with project management tools and structured reporting methodologies.

  • Fluent in English; Dutch is an advantage.

  • Availability to work 100% on site job, in Groningen (The Netherlands) with occasional international travels.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is €68,600 to €119,600 on an annual basis and includes 8% holiday allowance.

In addition to base pay, we offer the following benefits*: an annual bonus with set target (% of pay) depending on pay grade / location, where the actual amount is based on the employees’ and companies’ performance of the previous calendar year, or sales commissions.
