About Us
The Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) department in Leiden is part of the global Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain MSAT organization. We support biotherapeutic drug substance production and manage the technology platform at our Leiden manufacturing site. Our department is the leading partner in supporting process validation (SPV), technical product ownership and key driver of innovative technologies to enable the best value for patients and, driving the future of biopharmaceutical manufacturing. The Process Analytics team develops and deploys new process analytical technology (PAT), owns the technical expertise for process modeling, and drives adoption of advanced manufacturing technology on-site.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Associate Scientist in the Process Analytics team, to accelerate the deployment and value realization of process modeling and other process analytical technologies (e.g. Raman spectroscopy) at our site. In this role, you will closely collaborate with multi-functional teams, including, but not limited, Global Innovation, Site Operations, Engineering and Quality. You will be a key player in deploying and sustaining new technologies and process modeling solutions, in routine manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support PAT projects:
-
Execute and innovate process analytics solutions in line with our site strategy and innovation roadmap.

Be a change agent for new modeling applications and support technology scale-out
Process modeling:
-
Develop and sustain (multivariate data analysis) process models for real-time monitoring, forecasting, and process automation.
-
Develop and validate Raman chemometric models for GMP manufacturing.
-
Maintain (Raman) models throughout their lifecycle.
-
Support investigations and risk assessments using data modeling
Strategic project leadership:
-
Lead or support projects in automated process modeling, integrated quality and real-time release.
Compliance:
-
Ensure all work meets J&J, cGMP, and EHS quality, compliance and regulatory standards.
Team support:
-
Contribute to other MSAT Leiden activities as needed, upholding our values and standards.

Ensure alignment with global functions.
Qualifications
Education:
-
0 to 2 years with advanced Post-Doc degree in Data Science, IT, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Engineering, or equivalent

OR 2+ years of experience with advanced degree (MS/MBA/PhD or equivalent) in Data Science, IT, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Engineering, or equivalent
-
OR 5+ years of experience with bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Data Science, IT, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Engineering, or equivalent
Experience and Skills:
Required:

Experience with modeling software (e.g., SIMCA, Simio, Python, R)

Project Management Skills
-
Knowledge and hands-on experience with standard statistics and scientific analysis
Preferred:

Postgraduate qualification

(Biopharmaceutical) manufacturing experience in a GMP-regulated environment

Experience with Raman Spectroscopy, and spectral data analysis

Experience building data pipelines (Databricks) or visual boards (Tableau)

Experience with DCS (Delta V), SCADA, PLC systems; SAP, LIMS, AVEVA PI, or other business systems

Training in 6-Sigma/Lean or similar problem-solving methodologies

The anticipated base pay range for this position is 63,500 EUR to 85 445 EUR on an annual basis and includes 8% holiday pay.
In addition to base pay, we offer the following benefits*: an annual bonus with set target (% of pay) depending on pay grade / location, where the actual amount is based on the employees’ and companies’ performance of the previous calendar year, or sales commissions.
