Position Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated leading expert to join our team of scientists and to manage cutting-edge (viral vector-based) cell and gene therapy technology programs for the development of Cell and Gene Therapy Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). This role will work under minimal supervision and apply a comprehensive level of knowledge and experience to address complex problems that require solutions devised with limited information. The successful candidate will also be responsible for evaluating and adopting new technologies, driving scientific excellence across our technical platforms, and fostering collaborating with cross-functional teams within the broader Discovery, Product Development, and Supply (DPDS) organization of Johnson & Johnson. The ideal candidate possesses a high level of motivation and creativity, demonstrates strong leadership qualities and exceptional project management skills, and has a proven ability to collaborate effectively with others.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as leading expert that works independently to own major portions of Cell and Gene Therapy projects to drive delivery of projects that have a direct effect on business results within R&D.
  • Possess a high level of scientific and technical expertise, preferably also in lentivirus technologies for CAR T programs.
  • Responsible for integrating scientific strategy with business application and objectives.
  • Collaborate effectively with DPDS colleagues to align on manufacturing, analytical procedures, and program strategies. Support Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) development of advanced therapy product candidates.
  • Initiate and manage technology innovation and implementation of projects.
  • Design and guide highly complex experiments, able to accurately interpret resulting datasets, and effectively present impact and project decisions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Initiate and drive internal and external strategic collaborations with academic, CRO (Contract Research Organization), or biotech partners and contribute to defining department strategy.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, collaboration, and flexibility.

•Guide colleagues through consultation and mentoring in techniques and processes, and provide functional (matrix) supervision.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD degree with post-doctoral or equivalent experience in molecular virology, gene therapy or a relevant field is required.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of work experience, including 5 years in the pharmaceutical industry is required.
  • Proven scientific/technology subject matter expertise and able to recommend operational strategies and plans with direct impact on business results within area of responsibility.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with strong coaching and management skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with external partners, such as academic institutions or industry collaborators.
  • A strong commitment to data integrity and quality control.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and to adapt to changing business needs/ priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with electronic data capture and a digitalized lab environment.
  • Strong scientific reporting skills (verbal and in writing).
  • Problem solving skills

Other

  • Good working knowledge of English language.
