Senior Scientist Organic Chemistry (Bioconjugates)
Location: Oss
Synaffix is a biotech company with a clinical-stage platform technology that enables best-in-class antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), bispecific antibodies and other targeted therapeutics under a technology out-licensing business model. Synaffix was fully acquired by Lonza in June 2023. Aimed at enabling innovative medicines for patients in areas of high unmet medical need, Synaffix has forged a growing number of collaborations with top tier biotech and pharma companies by enabling best-in-class therapeutic candidates for their pipelines.
Today, Lonza is a global leader in life sciences operating across five continents. While we work in science, there’s no magic formula to how we do it. Our greatest scientific solution is talented people working together, devising ideas that help businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers. Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world. And that’s the kind of work we want to be part of.
We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Scientist Organic Chemistry to join our dynamic R&D Bioconjugation team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel payloads, bioconjugation technologies, and linkers that enable innovative therapeutic modalities. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating closely with colleagues in chemistry, biology, and analytical sciences to advance our research programs.
The prime objective of the R&D group at Synaffix/Lonza is to provide best-in-class targeted delivery technologies, i.e. development of protein conjugation technologies, linkers and payloads. General focus is on cytotoxic ADCs, however, other modalities are also being pursued, such as immuno-oncology, targeted gene therapy, neurodegenerative disease and autoimmune disease. A Scientist Organic Chemistry will play a key role in realizing and giving direction to Synaffix’ R&D agenda.

· Apply a broad understanding of synthetic and/or medicinal chemistry to develop and optimize novel chemical entities.
· Supervise, mentor, and motivate research associates to achieve project objectives.
· Plan and manage projects effectively, ensuring scientific excellence, quality, and timely delivery of results.
· Generate and interpret experimental data to support project decisions.
· Continuously evaluate and incorporate scientific literature to solve challenges and advance technology.
· Act as a team leader, fostering a collaborative and result-driven working environment.
· Identify risks and opportunities in ongoing projects and propose practical solutions.
Qualifications
· PhD or MSc degree in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related discipline.
· Proven experience in multi-step synthesis and purification of complex molecules.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Experience with bioconjugation chemistry, linker design, or ADC (antibody–drug conjugate) technology is a strong plus.
· Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others in a research setting.
· Excellent communication and organizational skills.
What We Offer
· A stimulating and collaborative scientific environment where innovation thrives.
· The opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge bioconjugate research with real therapeutic impact.
