The Netherlands is home to some of the largest manufacturing sites in the world​. In Haarlem we produce, package and distribute 2.500 different medicines and vaccines to 140 countries worldwide.  Haarlem is known as the 'flexible packaging' site in Europe and has a wide variety of technology platforms. The Global Logistics department, comprising 107 dedicated employees, oversees the management of incoming goods, the inspection and storage of bulk and finished goods (FIGOs), as well as components. Additionally, this team is responsible for distributing all our FIGOs to over 140 countries worldwide. You'll work alongside talented professionals who are dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency in global logistics. Purpose of the Position:

As the Operational Director of Global Logistics, you will be at the forefront of driving operational excellence within our logistics functions. In this influential role, you will navigate a complex logistics landscape, ensuring compliance with industry standards while inspiring and leading a diverse team to achieve our shared strategic goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operational Execution: Manage day-to-day operations of Global Logistics, including incoming goods, storage, trade compliance, customs, and distribution.

  • Quality and Safety Oversight: Implement and maintain strict quality control measures, while adhering to safety protocols and Good Distribution Practices (GDP).

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify inefficiencies and lead initiatives to enhance productivity, utilizing Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Team Leadership: Guide and mentor a diverse team of approximately 14 direct reports, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

  • Trade Compliance and Customs Affairs: Ensure compliance with international trade regulations while mitigating customs-related risks.

  • Strategic Development: Develop and implement strategies that drive growth and operational excellence in logistics.

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree: A degree in supply chain or logistics reflects foundational knowledge, with advanced degrees indicating deeper expertise.

  • APICS/CPIM certification: Beneficial for understanding production logistics and its relationship with transportation and warehousing.

  • 10 years of logistics experience: Extensive experience managing complex logistics systems, including automated warehouses and integrator networks, critical for efficient supply chains.

  • 5 years of management experience in pharmaceuticals: Knowledge of the regulatory environment and supply chain intricacies is essential for compliance and reliability in health-related products.

  • Understanding of trade compliance and customs: Essential for navigating international logistics complexities, including tariffs and customs clearance.

  • Ambition and management competence: Demonstrates a readiness for advancement and the ability to support team growth aligned with company goals.

  • Commitment to compliance (GMP and EHS): A strong focus on compliance is crucial for ensuring product integrity and worker safety in pharmaceuticals.

  • Leadership and Lean/Six Sigma knowledge: Proficiency in these methodologies drives efficiency and quality improvements in supply chain processes.

  • Strong communication skills in Dutch and English: Effective communication is vital for teamwork and collaboration in diverse, international settings.
