Job Description

About the Role

Be an EHS Specialist III at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Lelystad, contributing to maintaining high safety standards in Animal Health Products. In addition to supporting the Lelystad facility, the EHS specialist will support EHS activities in other sites in the Netherlands up to 50% of the time.

Key Responsibilities

  • EHS Compliance:

Guarantee full compliance with all applicable local and national EHS regulations.

1. Regularly monitor changes in regulations and proactively update EHS procedures to ensure compliance.

Manage EHS programs within budget.

  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

Conduct risk assessments and hazard analysis using Intelex.

1. Collaborate with department heads to develop and implement effective strategies to mitigate identified risks and minimize workplace incidents.

  • Safety Training and Education:

Build, develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees using SFLMS.

1. Assess training needs and adapt programs to ensure employees are well informed about safe work practices and emergency response protocols.

Be a key member of the site emergency response and incident management team.

  • Environmental Management:

Lead all aspects of environmental programs, encompassing waste management and sustainability initiatives.

1. Implement practices to reduce the company’s environmental footprint while maintaining compliance with environmental regulations.

Support new environmental initiatives in EMEA.

  • Auditing and Inspections:

Undertake scheduled EHS audits and inspections to appraise program efficiency and pinpoint potential areas for improvement.

1. Develop action plans to address findings accurately.

Participate in ISO/GMP audits as necessary.

  • Continuous Improvement:

Stay informed about EHS trends, technologies, and guidelines.

1. Recommend and implement process improvements and innovations to improve EHS performance.

Drive, deliver, implement, and report on efficiency projects in the EMEA region.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in environmental science, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, life sciences, biotechnology, or related field.
  • Professional EHS certifications such as EHS / Risk Management / Nebosh / IOSH are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with regulations concerning environmental, health, and safety on both local and national scales.
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written). Dutch proficiency is also advantageous.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office package.

Experience

  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, hazard identification, and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of EHS auditing and inspection procedures to evaluate program efficiency and adherence.
  • Experience in Lean and/or Practical Process Improvement (PPI).
  • Experience working in a biotech manufacturing company and/or ISO/GMP certified facility.
