Thermo Fisher Scientific is a world-wide company, and the world leader in serving science. In the Analytical Instruments Group, the Material and Structural Analysis Division is looking for a Module System Architect for Optical Modules in our Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM).

Department:

The System Architecture group is responsible for defining the architecture and design of our TEM Microscopes. This group is part of the TEM Solutions Research and Development organization. TEM Solutions is committed to develop innovative technologies, modules and software that enable us to deliver world class TEM microscopes for our demanding markets and customers.

The System Architecture team is one of the pillars of the Research and Development organization for our total Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) Solutions portfolio. This group is committed to develop TEM solutions (HW / SW) based on external and internal customers’ needs. System architects in the team are End-to-End technically responsible for developing innovative, high performing, and sustainable system platforms can serve our business and meet customer needs.  The system architect is responsible for translating customers’ needs into products’ road map and system requirements, decomposing the requirements towards the functional teams, bringing and maintaining the technical solutions in the market via securing platform architecture thinking. The system architect ultimately delivers in time to the market high-quality system design with predictable, reproducible, and validated performance in time to the market.

Our mission is to design, manufacture and sell industry leading new type of microscopes enabling our customers to work for instance on new drugs against viruses, new materials for batteries, smaller and smaller semiconductors.

Such developments require from us an architecture thinking for improving and / or crafting the performances of our systems.

Beyond having to secure the current position of the products in the market by coordinating the initial development phases for new sub-functions, modules, and options, the key mission of this position is to drive to next step in our engineering processes by integrating cutting-edge model-based system engineering (MBSE) practices, enhancing our ability to deliver innovative and high-quality solutions efficiently and effectively.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement model-based system engineering (MBSE) methodologies and frameworks to enhance the design, analysis, and validation processes within the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define system architecture, and ensure the integration of MBSE tools and techniques across various projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in the adoption of MBSE practices, including training and mentoring team members, to ensure consistent and effective application throughout the company.
  • Build the project definitions in a team with the product manager, project leader and specialists.
  • Be the technical lead for cross-functional teams, , oversee the development and implementation of system architecture concepts
  • Translate market requirements and customer needs into system requirements, system architecture, system design; and convert those into sub-requirements for relevant functions and modules
  • Optimize system-level performance (resolution, quality, throughput, cost, …) during the initial phases of the developments by means of modeling and / or Design of Experiments
  • Support (through active support and knowledge transfer) marketing and sales activities in respect to customer support and interactions, and during quotation phases
  • Seek for R&D efficiency by maximizing re-use of functions from other product lines as well as continuously improve obsolescence removal and prevention
  • Scout for and acquire up to date technical approaches relevant to system architecture and system design

Qualifications :

We welcome candidates with strong conceptual thinking skills that enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary, highly technical environment where personal development and team collaboration are key to success.

  • Typically requires 7+ years of experience with proven track record of software- as well as hardware-focused design activities.
  • Proven experience in model-based system engineering  and knowledgeable about requirement management and model base system engineering tools (JAMA / DOORS / …, Arcadia-Capella / Architect Enterprise / …)
  • Within the area of expertise proficiency in concepts, principles and practices is required. This knowledge is gained through deep involvement into the development of Electron Microscopes (or other relevant sophisticated high-tech systems), combined with theoretical studies. Being recognized as a specialist in his/her field
  • A university degree is required, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrate the required skill.
  • Extensive knowledge on a broad area of Electron Microscopy related technologies is a preference.
  • Training such as Design for Six Sigma, or experience with bringing modules from requirements phase to the market is preferred.
  • Ability to lead people interdisciplinary at the technical level (systems, electrical, mechanical and software engineering) towards delivering a new module.
  • Proficient in English and preferably strong in local language
