The Position

The TEM Portfolio team is one of the Portfolio teams within the Material Science R&D organization enabling customer centricity. This group is committed to lead the development of innovative product-, module- and integration projects that enable us to deliver extraordinary TEM microscopes for our demanding markets and customers.

As Senior Staff Project Manager you work within a hard-working multi-disciplinary team, and you are responsible to deliver successful projects and highly performing teams. You handle all dependencies between projects and/or programs and to build bridges to secure gate adherence.

In your role, you showcase good knowledge of sophisticated systems and promote Practical Process Improvements with high impact potential. You possess authority level in your field of competence and are able to influence your environment to get things done.

Apart from being a leader in project management, you practice mentorship towards growing leaders within the career track. You can lead and coach a department on processes and ways of working to increase the overall effectiveness of the department and the company.

You will typically be responsible to run multiple projects in parallel. The complex projects that can vary from relatively small to big taking up to 3,5 years. Additionally, Specials enable new technologies to support faster market introductions and customer deliveries. The decisions made by you and your teams will have direct business impact. Your challenge will be to build technological sophisticated products, meeting the needs of all your customers, combining short term goals with long term needs. You will report directly to the Sr Manager of Project Management and operationally to the corresponding Portfolio Leader.

Duties and responsibilities

• Lead the programming and execution of all projects (Workflows, System Integration, Modules, Software) for multiple portfolios.
• Implement meticulous review processes and set clear expectations around the key results of the projects.
• Consistency to the Process and defined delivery schedules.
• Effectively handle the requirements and collaborate with multi-functional teams including marketing, manufacturing, service, and finance to ensure breakthrough specifications to be delivered.
• Part of to the R&D budgeting process by providing financial/budgetary analysis.
• Lead the program scope within the agreed budget, timeline and quality.
• Apply knowledge to create or propose novel solutions that drives high customer value.
• Demonstrate intimate knowledge of products, technologies, and customer use-cases and how they interrelate. Based on this knowledge, build roadmap identifying value streams.
• Lead efforts to vet, evaluate, and champion to others new insights for potential product concepts using risk-taking and innovation tools.
• Leads others to refine own ideas and ideas of others and look for commonalities.
• Participate and promote intellectual property related idea generation and development.
• Capable to present at (technology) conferences both internal and external. May have relationships with universities, outside technical communities, etc.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

• Typically requires a BSc or University Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field.
• Typically requires 15+ years of work experience, of which you have worked in similar low volume capital equipment industry.
• 10+ years experience in systems or subsystems project management, with ambition to continue to grow in a role as Sr. Manager Program Management
• Lead complex, multidisciplinary development projects through a defined product management process.
• Ability to build consensus among key collaborators that may not be under your management control.
• Strong communication is required due to the multi-functional nature of this role. Explaining complex, technical concepts to a variety of audiences energizes you.
• Ability to lead and assign specific duties and build a constructive and coordinated working relationship.
