Job Description

Company:

Thermo Fisher Scientific is a world-wide company, and the world leader in serving science. In the Analytical Instruments Group, the Material and Structural Analysis Division is looking for a Module System Architect for detection modules in our Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM).

Department:

The Module System Architecture group works to define the architecture and design of modules for our TEM Microscopes. This group is part of the TEM Solutions Research & Development organization. TEM Solutions is committed to develop innovative technologies, modules and software that enable us to deliver world class TEM microscopes.

The Research & Development department strives to convert the most promising technological innovations and concepts into real products. This is done by aligning with the Advanced Technology department and several selected collaboration-partners.

Project Teams:

The development teams for electron detection modules consist of mechanical, electrical and systems engineers as well as project leads. The teams are working closely together with their software engineering counterparts. The growing demand for developing specific electron detection solutions has opened a position for a dedicated Module Architect.

Position:

  • Work with the Product System Architect, translating market requirements for detection of electrons into concept definitions, design specifications, module architecture and module design.

  • Take ownership for optimization of module-level performance (technical performance, quality, efficiency, cost, reliability, …) during the initial phase of product development.

  • During validation, ensure the module performance specifications meet the predefined requirements.

  • Develop and maintain camera / detector module roadmaps.

  • Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team to develop new modules to extend our roadmap and product portfolio in transmission electron microscopy.

Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates with strong conceptual thinking skills that enjoy working in a highly technical, multi-disciplinary environment. In this environment personal development and team collaboration are key to success.

  • Typically requires 7+ years of experience with proven track record of software- as well as hardware-focused design activities.

  • A university degree (MSc or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or related field is required.

  • A background in imaging techniques is strongly preferred, mainly camera and imaging pipeline related.

  • Trainings such as Design for Six Sigma and experience with bringing modules from requirements phase to the market is preferred.

  • Excellent skills in inspiring, developing and motivating are required in the interaction with other people.
