The Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries and ultimately change the world. We design, manufacture, and support a broad range of high-performance microscopy and spectroscopy workflows on wafers and single chips that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. We combine hardware and software expertise in electron and ion microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sciences, electronics, and natural resources markets. Our worldwide Electron Microscopy colleagues are dedicated to our customers' pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.

How will you make an impact?

As a Supervisor Operations Engineering Modules within Operations you will lead a group of engineers and technical specialists within the Operations Engineering department. You will coach them to ensure personal and professional development. You will have a close relationship with the Operations Production Supervisor(s) to fulfill the technical needs. If needed given the severity of an escalated issue, you will assist your team on the shopfloor, to go “back to green” as soon as possible. For this to a certain level of extend technical skills and in depth TEM knowledge are needed (i.e. mechanical, electrical and optical). Good coordination and facilitation of factory and supply chain issues by you and your team is key to timely deliver the products to our customers. You will organizes proper staffing of engineers to provide adequate levels of technical expertise. You and your team will show a “yes we can do / yes we will help” attitude to make the impossible possible. Your team acts as a link between development (R&D) and production (Operations) in order to efficiently organize the design transfer and life cycle management. Your team will work closely together with the PLM, Product Marketing, R&D, manufacturing, logistics, purchasing, quality, and Technical Service Support (TSS) groups within Thermo Fisher to ensure development of sustainable products according to the latest quality standards.

What will you do

  • Leads and manages a team of engineers and technical specialists.
  • Drives the defined strategy.
  • Aligns the defined goals with all direct reports.
  • Organizes proper staffing of engineers to provide adequate levels of technical expertise.
  • Prioritizing work and resources across the team.
  • Improve team effectiveness, further mature assigned team, contribute to OE bowler (K)PI's.
  • Have daily management (tier1) in place for your team and drive the K(PI)'s within the required performance.
  • Guides team members professional development by goal setting, mentoring and coaching.
  • Gives feedback on succession planning.
  • Provides input on the competence matrix
  • Actively demonstrate and apply leadership behaviors and act according 4i Values
  • Remove barriers to success and enable a work environment where colleagues can be their best self and are motivated to excel
  • Provides input for capital investments
  • Coordinates and facilitates higher level factory/ supply chain critical issues as needed by interacting with the appropriate functional groups to achieve resolution
  • Drives execution of factory and field continuous improvement activities

How to get there (Education and experience):

  • University degree in a technical area, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
  • Typically requires 7-10 years of experience in high-tech industry environment in service, development or manufacturing
  • Typically requires 3-5 years management experience (people and/or projects) in a manufacturing, technical support or service management role in a high tech industry environment
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (local language is preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop people via mentoring and coaching
  • Working knowledge of project management, data analysis and resource planning
  • Demonstrated experience with effective managing of issues and high-pressure situations
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear and concise analysis of data, systematic problem solving and basic experimental methods, test protocols and procedures that include multiple factors
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of multiple cross-functional departments and sites without damaging relationships
  • Experience with systematic problem solving, methods and tools
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse customers in English and preferably also Dutch language.
  • Be a collaborative team-player with hands-on and can-do mentality
