Associate Director, Commercial Strategy - Haematology

This is a great opportunity to join a fast-growing, global biotech company that pursues scientific and clinical research to create transformative medicines for people with rare or serious diseases. Reporting to the BeNeLux Senior Country Manager, this role is responsible for developing and implementing the commercial strategy for a gene-editing therapy in benign Hematology (Sickle Cell Disease and Transfusion Dependent Beta-Thalassemia). To achieve this, the successful candidate will be responsible for translating global strategy into local plans, leading the local cross-functional team, and executing a robust external engagement strategy.

This role is hybrid office based in Haarlem, The Netherlands or Brussels, Belgium.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

· Ensures commercial strategy is built in alignment with the International Commercial objectives and a rigorous analysis of the local Benelux environment leading to effective prioritization, assumptions and forecasts

· Leads the development and implementation of annual tactical plans that address local priorities and objectives through an appropriate mix of commercial activities

· Develops a suite of KPIs to monitor performance against objectives and manages the opex allocated to projects and activities in a disciplined manner

· Oversees the work of the ‘Centre Engagement Lead’, a direct report tasked with ensuring that treatment centres designated to initiate the therapy are operationally ready at the point of reimbursement

· Develops strong local governance of the cross-functional Heme team, ensuring consistent external communication aligned to local priorities and a targeted engagement plan in place with key external stakeholders that is executed in a timely manner

· Works closely with the Sickle Cell and Beta-Thalassemia stakeholder networks to generate insights on the diseases, patient journey and the evolution of treatment. In doing so, identifies where Vertex can positively address opportunities and challenges faced by patients, carers and physicians

· Represents the Benelux Hematology Commercial business on the Benelux Local Leadership Team and act as the primary lead for interactions with Senior Leaders within Vertex

· At the point of reimbursement, works closely with treatment and referral centres to ensure patients identified for treatment in line with eligibility criteria are supported on the treatment journey

· Works closely with HQ functions on the assumptions and forecast for product supply to ensure efficient and effective allocation of production slots for gene editing

· Acts ethically and maintains the highest standards of legal and ethical conduct in everything that we do

Required Education:

· Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, business, or scientific degree required

Required Experience:

· Strong experience in a relevant Hematology commercial function in the bio-pharmaceutical industry at managerial level with demonstrated ability to manage the activities of direct reports

· Preferably experience in developing strategy and tactics for product launches in Rare Diseases or cell & gene therapies, in Benelux region and as part of a cross-country team at a European or Global level

Required Knowledge and Skills:

· Adept at navigating complex environments and rapidly assimilating information and insights to generate scenarios and strategies

· Analytic and agile mindset that can make trade-offs between priorities and investments, showcasing logic and robust argumentation based on facts and insights

· Highly skilled in leading and influencing cross-functional teams, including interfacing with key internal and external stakeholders as well as senior leadership

· Superior project management skills and familiarity with project planning tools and a strong ability to ruthlessly prioritize and re-prioritize as new insights come to light

· Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage the uncertainty that comes with a new and rapidly evolving therapy area

· Demonstrates a robust understanding of the market access environment for Cell and Gene Therapies in the cluster

· An entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems

· Detail orientated with a hands-on ‘can do’ attitude Strong written communication skills, presentation delivery and interpersonal skills to be effective in a team environment

· Fluent in English and Dutch or French

· Committed to learning and development

· A solid compliance mindset and demonstrated integrity on the job
