Scientist, Mass Spectrometry Characterization

The Role

As a Scientist Mass Spectrometry within the Structural Characterization group of the Analytical Development department, you will contribute to the analytical characterization of our antibody-based therapeutics, helping to generate the data and scientific insights that support their progression from development through to regulatory submission and beyond. While you will contribute across the product lifecycle, your primary focus will be on early-stage CMC development and regulatory filings.

In this entry-level Scientist role, you will design, coordinate, interpret, and communicate mass spectrometry-based characterization studies using state-of-the-art instrumentation. You will combine hands-on scientific expertise with project coordination and will provide day-to-day guidance to a small team of Research Associates, helping them grow while ensuring high-quality execution.

Working closely with colleagues across Analytical Development and CMC, you will ensure that studies are scientifically robust, regulatory relevant, and delivered with a strong focus on data integrity. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the continuous development of our mass spectrometry capabilities, helping shape how we characterize the next generation of antibody therapeutics.

Responsibilities

• Manage, coach, and support a small group of Research Associates, including day-to-day prioritization, scientific guidance, feedback, and development.

• Plan, coordinate, and provide scientific oversight for mass spectrometry-based characterization studies of antibody-based therapeutics across early- and late-stage CMC projects.

• Guide the design, optimization, troubleshooting, and implementation of LC-MS/MS-based analytical workflows, including peptide mapping, intact and reduced mass analysis, and other protein characterization approaches.

• Interpret complex analytical data and translate findings into clear conclusions, recommendations, technical reports, and regulatory-supporting documentation.

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support product understanding, comparability, process development, formulation development, and regulatory filings.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of mass spectrometry workflows by identifying opportunities to strengthen robustness, efficiency, data quality, and scientific relevance.

Requirements

• A PhD in a relevant scientific discipline, or an MSc with approximately three to five years of relevant experience in mass spectrometry-based analytics.

• Strong understanding of LC-MS/MS, protein chemistry, peptide mapping, intact and reduced mass analysis, chromatography, and mass spectrometry data interpretation.

• Experience with analytical characterization of therapeutic proteins, preferably antibody-based products, in a CMC or biologics development environment.

• Experience with coaching, mentoring, supervising, or coordinating the work of others is preferred.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, communicate clearly, and deliver high-quality scientific output within agreed timelines.

• Motivated by working in a collaborative environment, supporting the development of others, and continuously improving analytical workflows .
