Breeding Nursery Specialist
The Breeding Nursery Specialist is responsible to support vegetable pipelines to ensure success in nursery operations & inventory management, through collection of genotypic samples, planning of crossing blocks, and preparation of trialing packages for testing teams. The Nursery Specialist supports the delivery of seed in the right quantity, quality, to the right location at the right time according to crop cycle timelines, plans and protocols.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute and support day-to-day nursery operations and seed inventory task, such as sowings & transplants, genomic sample collection, preparation of material for nursery activities, preparation of trial packages, seed harvest, seed treatment & packaging.
- Effective collaboration with Nursery Associates, Crop Production to execute on the delivery of high-quality seed production, Seed inventory management, data collection and entry into enterprise systems.
- Collaborate with PEA/Breeder/TRA’s through the enterprise tools during preparation of trials/shipments.
- Help and assist the Nursery Associate to organize activities within the team (definition of priorities, preparation of lists, communication with stakeholders, KPI archiving etc..).
- Support successful planning to generate needed crossing blocks, trialing packages and quality data for product advancement.
- Collect and leverage data to support improvement and optimization of pipelines, tools and workflows, including extraction, curation and management of genomic, phenotypic and pipeline data.
- Proactively identify opportunities to assist in improving established procedures, and lead troubleshooting activities through root cause analysis and troubleshooting techniques.
- Log relevant data in the appropriate breeding databases and ensure timely update and maintenance.
- Available to work outside business hours if needed for Crop care and if (technical) problems occur and participate in the technical emergency service.
- Contribute and implement to additional projects related to the development, optimization & evolution of process across the team depending on certain situations (trial process, seed stock, phenotyping, inventory, other tasks of the team etc..).

WHO YOU ARE
- Bachelor’s degree to Master’s Degree in plant breeding, horticulture, vegetal sciences or in a related field of research
- 2+ years’ experience in plant breeding, preferably in horticulture, or in research in agriculture.
- Ability to perform successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based environment. Manages multiple projects and priorities.
- Ability to perform tasks with considerable independence.
- Capacity to communicate and work effectively with all management levels in a multi-cultural organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and understanding of how to apply them to achieve business results.
- Autonomous in decision making.
- Source of proposals.
- Fluency with communication and transparency.
- Good level of English is required.
