
Project Engineer – Engineering & Maintenance (E&M)

Your Role
As a Project Engineer within the Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) department, you are responsible for independently initiating, executing, and delivering CAPEX and improvement projects within a GMP environment. You operate at the intersection of engineering, project management, and compliance, playing a key role in realizing investment projects related to facilities, utilities, and laboratory and production equipment. You contribute to the further professionalization of the project organization within E&M and act as a technical sparring partner for various stakeholders across the organization.

You are a proactive and results-driven project engineer with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. You combine hands-on execution with a strategic mindset, enabling you to successfully deliver complex CAPEX projects in a GMP environment. You are a natural team player with excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English, able to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders. You are structured and analytical, with the ability to manage risks, dependencies, and changing priorities. Your leadership and negotiation skills allow you to guide projects and teams to successful outcomes, even in challenging situations. You strive for high quality and compliance, while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Independently execute small, medium, and large (> €1M) CAPEX and improvement projects
- Lead projects from feasibility study through implementation and handover to the organization
- Perform feasibility studies and engineering studies for GMP facilities, utilities, and equipment
- Coordinate Byondis-wide CAPEX priorities
- Ensure safe execution and compliance with all safety guidelines
- Ensure full GMP compliance in all project activities
- Prepare and coordinate tender processes
- Prepare GMP documentation such as change controls, risk assessments, and initial qualification documentation
- Align with all relevant stakeholders to ensure successful project implementation
- Identify and manage project dependencies and risks
- Support E&M teams (Utilities and Equipment) with technical expertise and root cause analyses
- Continuously improve and standardize project execution within the E&M department
Competencies:
- Strong project management skills with a focus on results (time, budget, quality)
- Hands-on mentality combined with strategic insight
- Strong communication skills in Dutch and English, both written and verbal
- Team player with strong persuasion and leadership skills
- Experience in negotiation and stakeholder management
- Proactive, structured, and capable of independently managing complex projects
- Ability to lead challenging projects and teams to successful outcomes
Education
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required, candidates with a Master’s degree is considered an advantage
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing technical CAPEX projects in similar or comparable roles
- Proven experience working in a GMP-compliant environment is a strong plus
