Byondis zoekt een

Researcher small molecule characterization

Nijmegen, Netherlands

Byondis is an independent Dutch biopharmaceutical company, based in Nijmegen, that focuses on developing innovative medicines against cancer and autoimmune diseases. Our values integrity, authenticity, entrepreneurship, quality and trust are very highly regarded. We are driven by one goal: to develop new treatments to improve the standard of care for patients.

The department of Analytical Development and Quality Control (ADQC) plays a key role in Byondis’ development and manufacturing activities, because without extensive and accurate measurements, biotechnology-derived medicinal products cannot be designed, improved or applied. That is why we take pride in providing high-quality analytical information to ensure the safety and efficacy of our innovative products in patients.

ADQC comprises a multidisciplinary team of about 30 people with in-depth knowledge and experience in various analytical technologies, ranging from chromatography to electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, microbiology and cell-based assays. Within the department, analytical methods are developed, qualified and applied to characterize new chemical and biological entities, such as small molecule (linker-)drugs, monoclonal antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates.

Your Role

The characterization group within ADQC is seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher that will be responsible for the R&D characterization of synthetic small molecule (linker-)drugs to be used for novel antibody-drug conjugates in development at Byondis. In this role, you will develop and execute analytical methods -primarily chromatographic techniques- to evaluate for instance the assay, purity, residual solvents, water content and salt forms. These methods are applied for a variety of studies, including R&D material release and stability, comparability and forced degradation studies. Next to that, providing troubleshooting support during process development and manufacturing of Byondis’ therapeutic products make up an integral part of the position.

What do you need to succeed in this role?

You are a natural team player with an attitude to collaborate and communicate, both with your colleagues (peers) within ADQC, as well as with colleagues from other disciplines. You are flexible and able to act in a dynamic and demanding environment. You take ownership of activities with a focus on precision and quality of your own and your colleagues’ work. You are result-oriented, pro-active and creative to provide answers rather than test results. You are self-motivated, which enables you to work with a high degree of independence.

  • A B.Sc./M.Sc. degree in Analytical Chemistry, or a related field. This is not a PhD-level position.
  • Relevant experience in small molecule analysis, for example with liquid, gas and ion chromatography, Karl Fischer and thermogravimetric analysis, preferably in pharmaceutical industry.
  • Familiarity with data analysis software (e.g. Empower) is preferred.
  • Affinity with mass spectrometry is considered a plus.
  • Ability to summarize and communicate results in discussions with colleagues, as well as in formal reports.
  • Willingness to continuously develop and expand your skills, knowledge and expertise and supporting your direct colleagues in doing the same.

Benefits and well being

Besides a competitive salary, we offer you a dynamic working environment at our state-of-the-art campus in Nijmegen.  We also offer a pension scheme, 30 days annual leave based on a full-time position, and we organize several company events throughout the year.
