The Role

Are you interested in improving how a laboratory operates, while gaining hands-on exposure to analytical techniques in a biotech environment? Do you enjoy creating structure, optimizing processes, and making systems more efficient? Keep on reading!

We are looking for a highly motivated intern to join the Protein & Cell Supply (PCS) department at Genmab in Utrecht. Within PCS, you will focus on improving how centrally stored materials (such as proteins) are organized, managed, and accessed across the organization.

This internship is centered around operational excellence rather than scientific research . You will work on optimizing the setup and management of shared lab storage (including cold rooms and freezers), ensuring materials are stored in a structured, efficient, and compliant way.

Using a Lean Six Sigma mindset, you will identify inefficiencies, reduce waste (such as search time and manual checks), and design a future-proof system that improves usability, traceability, and overall operational effectiveness.

Alongside this, you will gain exposure to the analytical techniques used to assess the quality of stored materials, giving you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with analytical techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a logical, structured layout for centrally stored materials (e.g. proteins) in cold storage environments.

  • Develop and introduce a system that improves usability, traceability, and efficiency for all users of shared lab storage.

  • Analyze current workflows and identify opportunities to reduce manual work, errors, and search time using an operational excellence mindset.

  • Support verification of material data (e.g. concentration and volume) for a defined subset of samples.

  • Gain hands-on exposure to analytical techniques used for quality control, such as A280 measurements, mass spectrometry, HPSEC, and CE-SDS.

  • Learn about lab automation workflows, including working with systems such as the Tecan Fluent and Excel-based tools.

  • Contribute to creating a safe, compliant, and scalable storage environment aligned with laboratory standards.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an MLO or HLO Bachelor’s program at a University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands (e.g. Biology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Research, or a related field).

  • This internship must be a mandatory part of your degree program, supported by a formal agreement between Genmab, you, and your educational institution.

  • Strong interest in operational excellence, process improvement, or lab organization (no prior Lean Six Sigma experience required).

  • An organized, structured, and detail-oriented working style.

  • Strong communication skills in English , as this is Genmab’s primary working language.

General Information

  • Internship duration: 4-6 months.

  • Start date: Sept 1st.

  • Location: Utrecht, Netherlands.

  • This is a full-time onsite internship position.
