Research Associate, High Throughput Molecular Tools & Expression

The  Role
As a Research Associate in the Antibody Discovery - High Throughput Molecular Tools & Expression (HMTE) team, you will work with highly motivated colleagues supporting the organization with molecular biology tools and capabilities. You will use cutting-edge liquid handling systems to perform high-throughput molecular biological procedures efficiently and accurately, combined with the analysis of large data sets. Within this team, you will directly contribute to one of the key processes within the organization, the generation of antibody panels.

The HMTE team is part of the Antibody Research Materials department, providing molecular biology and technology expertise to the research organization and delivering antibody panels to other expert teams, who will lead further characterization and development. You will be part of a team of five, existing of four (Senior) Research Associates and reporting to an Expert Research Associate who's leading the team.

Responsibilities

  • You strengthen the HT Molecular Tools & Expression team with your up-to-date knowledge of, and experience in molecular biology techniques.

  • You perform molecular biological procedures such as RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, PCR and cloning with the help of state-of-the-art liquid handling robotics systems.

  • Document, process, and analyze experimental results in a timely manner; draw valid conclusions, and present these to the wider project team.

  • Set high quality standards and take initiatives to improve the team and your own work.

  • You share responsibilities for managing and maintaining laboratory spaces, equipment and materials.


Requirements

  • You have completed HLO education or equivalent in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or a related discipline.

  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques such as RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, PCR, cloning, and sequence analysis.

  • Experience with expression of recombinant proteins, preferably antibodies, in mammalian systems.

  • Affinity with process automation and optimization using liquid handling robotics (Tecan).

  • You like to troubleshoot and are a problem solver when an apparatus gives an error.

  • You feel comfortable with big data sets and are enthusiastic about analyzing them.

  • Experience with FACS analysis, and protein expression is a plus.

  • You have a ‘getting things done mentality’, you are enthusiastic, goal-oriented, efficient and accurate and you enjoy working in a team.

  • You are capable of independently running experiments in parallel and working in a flexible way.

  • You are fluent in English as this is our main language.
