Job summary
To optimize and report processes and output of all business pillars by promote and organize Business Excellence trainings and tools.
Sponsor of Johnson & Johnson Production Systems (JJPS) / Johnson & Johnson Operating Systems-Make (JJOS-Make).
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, manages all aspects of the PE/Six Sigma, root cause analysis and problem resolution using the Six Sigma tools carries out complex or novel assignments requiring breakthrough results with the use of Process Excellence and DMAIC techniques and tools.
Key Responsibilities
Under and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:
- Responsible for maintaining the site project portfolio, drive the measurement of projects that fit our commitments in meeting business plan and ensure progress to the sites strategic plan, and communicate all goals and deliverables in terms of defined measures.
- Responsible for ensuring projects are developed that “add up” to achieving the goals.
- Defines process owner and belt candidate (project leader) for each project under a major goal.
- Accountable with sponsors for development of business case, measure, problem definition and timeline for each project in the aggregate project plan for the site.
- Chair plant PELT and hold sponsors/project leaders accountable to timeliness and deliverables.
- Responsible for quantitative project result verification as well as verifying control plan implementation to maintain the projects improvement for all projects completed.
Metrics
- Drive focus and organizational alignment and understanding around the Franchise and operations strategic imperatives
- In conjunction with the Site/functional staff and change management teams, translate these strategic imperatives into specific projects, measures, and timelines that will drive execution. Create and maintain the Site/function Strategic Imperative Translation, and monthly scorecard.
- Responsible for understanding the metrics (system & processes) and communication architecture within the operations community.
- Share best practices for introducing, driving and sustaining imperatives across operating locations with other PE leaders.
- Ensure all measures used for management decisions adhere to “well-dressed” standard.
Lean
- Responsible for knowing the entire material and information flow for all products or services that are created on site
- Document entire “value stream” in a map for each product family or service produced by the site. (Current State)
- Maintain future state vision for the product or service families also in a value stream map
- If applicable to the site, manages and directs small group of staff engaged in PE activity (industrial engineers, Black Belts, etc.)
- Accountable to ensure that all key site leadership has received awareness and sponsor training for lean projects as appropriate
- Certify/Re-certify to J&J Process Excellence Lean Black Belts Standards
Six Sigma & Dex
- Responsible for facilitating the scoring and management action plan on behalf of the plant staff
- Developing additional project or activities in the management action plan that improve the culture for continuous improvement within the site or functional area
- Collaborate with other Site PE leaders and MBB’s on development of materials, programs of study and additional services if desired both inside and outside of Johnson & Johnson
- Understand and adheres to Mentor environmental and safety policies and guidelines, J&J pollution prevention goals and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for compliance with all regulatory, corporate and local policies. Product quality and customer service are the touchstones of Mentor Operations
- Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level
- For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable
- Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures
- Performs other duties assigned as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) required at a minimum, preferably in an Engineering or Science discipline.
- Black Belt certified preferred
- Requires BS degree in technical or quantitative business field. Would also benefit from MS in Industrial Engineering, Industrial Management, Operations Research, Applied Statistics/Mathematics or Quality Engineering is preferred.
- Must possess at least 5 years of work experience in a similar environment with a pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device company.
- A minimum of 3 years in management/supervisory role is required. ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) implementation experience, preferably JD Edwards.
- Experience working in an FDA regulated environment is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated functional knowledge of Lean Manufacturing philosophies, Six Sigma, Green or Black Belt certification is preferred.
- Experience in standard costing and measurement, capital budgeting.
