We offer an internship opportunity within our ATS Material Science & Characterization department where you will have the freedom and space for your own initiative.

Intern – WO Master biochemistry/molecular life sciences/biomedical technology – ATS Material Science & Characterization

Welcome to our team
The ATS Material Science & Characterization department is an essential hub in our organization. We are the Global ATS Material Science and Characterization group within Animal Health. We are located in Oss, the Netherlands and are mainly focused on physicochemical analytics. The solid state characterization team features many state of the art solid state characterization techniques (FTIR, XRPD, TGA, DSC, DVS, SEM, PSD) to investigate the properties of small molecule APIs used in veterinary healthcare. The team has recently acquired new instrumentation (Nano DSC, CD spectrometry and fluorescence spectrometry) to characterize the biophysical properties of biomolecules (such as monoclonal antibodies). The project will be a great chance to gain experience within the pharmaceutical industry. The team works closely with other departments within the company to achieve the stated goals.

Your internship assignment

Being an intern at our company means you will work together with a team on veterinary healthcare in an international environment. Besides generating valuable information, the aim of the project is to investigate the value of CD spectrometry as part of the biophysical testing of protein samples (including monoclonal antibodies), and to develop a method guideline for performing CD spectrometry on biomolecules. The internship will provide you with good basics in the involved analytical technique (CD spectrometry) and give you the opportunity to gain experience within a multidisciplinary team in the pharmaceutical industry.

Your responsibilities

  • Perform a background study on the application of CD spectrometry in biophysical testing of proteins
  • Develop a CD spectrometry method for protein samples, including sample preparation, execution and result interpretation
  • Perform initial tests and analyze the results
  • Evaluate the results and suggest improvements
  • Providing a fresh perspective to the department by sharing your opinion.

The described tasks form the basic package and will often be performed independently after a proper training and learning period. These tasks may be supplemented with other projects and/or tasks on your own initiative or at the request of the organization.

What is required

  • A WO master student in biochemistry/molecular life sciences/biomedical technology
  • You are knowledgeable about bio- and/or protein chemistry (required)
  • You are trained to work safely and effectively in a laboratory environment
  • You are enthusiastic about biophysical characterization techniques in the pharmaceutical industry
  • You have (some) knowledge about CD spectrometry (preferred)
  • You are searching for an internship where you have the freedom to take initiative
  • Excellent Dutch and English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • You are available for a period of at least 4 – 6 months for 5 days a week.

What we offer
Interning at our company means working together with your team towards health in an international work environment. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with experts and learn from them. Besides generating valuable data, the aim of the project is to investigate the value of CD spectrometry as part of the biophysical testing of protein samples (including monoclonal antibodies), and to develop a method guideline for performing CD spectrometry on biomolecules.

In addition, we offer:

  • The chance to gain experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • An opportunity to showcase yourself for potential opportunities after your internship period
  • A challenging and dynamic work environment with plenty of room for personal development and initiative
  • Good guidance from an experienced specialist
  • A gross monthly internship allowance of €500, - based on a 40-hour workweek
