The Medical Affairs department in the Netherlands consists of approximately 25 colleagues with backgrounds as doctors, pharmacists, or (PhD in) life sciences, and it serves as the scientific heartbeat of the company.
Purpose of the position
As the Therapeutic Area Lead (TA Lead) for General Medicine and Specialty Care, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of medical affairs within our organization. You will lead a talented team of Medical Advisors, ensuring a clear strategic vision that drives all medical activities in your therapeutic area. This includes overseeing a diverse pipeline that encompasses critical therapeutic areas such as immunology, cardiovascular , ophthalmology, and more.
Your key responsibilities will include developing and executing a robust local Medical Affairs strategy, fostering a high-performing and compliant team, and representing our interests in essential cross-functional collaborations. You will have the opportunity to be involved in significant product launches across these diverse fields, making a meaningful impact on patient care. Additionally, you will support the Country Medical Director in engaging with external stakeholders, bringing your expertise to the forefront of our company’s leadership initiatives. Your leadership will not only enhance our response to medical challenges but also elevate the standard of care in the communities we serve.
Primary responsibilities

Leadership of Medical Advisors Team : Directly manage, develop, and empower the Medical Advisors team focusing on General Medicine and Specialty Care, fostering a compliant and innovative work environment.

Talent Development : Proactively recruit, onboard, and develop talent while addressing emerging needs through training and resource allocation.

Strategic Development of CMAPs : Develop and execute Country Medical Affairs Plans (CMAPs) that align with global strategies, ensuring adherence to regulations and operational procedures.

Scientific Insight Management : Drive actionable scientific insight activities through Medical Advisors to inform company strategies and enhance medical affairs initiatives.

Budget Management : Oversee the operating administrative budget and life-cycle management budget for General Medicine and Specialty Care, acting as a financial steward of company resources.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Represent Medical Affairs in cross-functional teams, advocating for interests and providing medical expertise to commercial product teams and regional/global colleagues.

Engagement with External Stakeholders : Support the Country Medical Director in representing the company to key national stakeholders, ensuring robust engagement with the medical community.

Network Development : Build and maintain a network of key scientific leaders and external stakeholders to gather insights that inform local, regional, and global strategies for innovative medicines in General Medicine and Specialty Care.
Your profile

Education : MD, PhD, or PharmD required .

Experience : Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical affairs within the biopharmaceutical industry.

Leadership Abilities : Proven leadership and organizational skills, with a track record of setting goals, articulating a vision, and aligning team members.

Regulatory Knowledge : In-depth knowledge of local and regional regulatory agencies, as well as ethical guidelines, laws, and regulations pertinent to the pharmaceutical industry to ensure compliance with all internal and external standards.

Strategic Prioritization : Strong prioritization skills and the ability to evaluate how decisions align with broader corporate strategies.

Communication Skills : Demonstrated capability to effectively convey information to country management.

Collaborative Approach : Effective collaboration skills in a matrix organizational environment.
