Welcome to our team

The Global Science & Technology (S&T) division provides technical expertise to our animal health manufacturing organizations, leveraging science, technology and innovation to ensure new product commercialization and supply continuity. It continuously improves processes and analytics to meet customer demands through manufacturing excellence. A new Global Analytical Technology Solutions (ATS) team has been established to oversee analytical activities across the Animal Health network, encompassing both Small (ATS-Pharma) and Large (ATS-Bio) Molecules. Our Monoclonal Antibodies/Biomaterials team (7 FTE) is responsible for the generation of new hybridomas, and production, purification and conjugation of monoclonal antibodies (MCAs) to supply all of our R&D and Quality Control sites worldwide. In addition, the team is also responsible for the purification and conjugation of other Biomaterials.

Purpose of the role

Reporting to the Director of ATS-Bio EU/APAC, you will be responsible for the comprehensive oversight and prioritization of all team activities related to the generation and supply of monoclonal antibodies (MCAs) and biomaterials to our global R&D and QC sites. This role involves directly managing the team, streamlining laboratory operations in line with R&D and QC customer demands, strategic initiatives and team capacity, and with a clear understanding of (strategic) business needs.  You will determine project priorities and allocate resources in alignment with strategic objectives while fostering strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive successful outcomes.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Prioritize project work by analyzing strategic importance, outstanding tasks, barriers, and deadlines to effectively allocate resources.
  • Oversee all laboratory activities related to hybridoma generation, MCA production, purification via affinity column chromatography, and conjugation of MCAs with HRP, biotin, or acceptor beads.
  • Supervise and support lab activities related to the downstream processing of other biomaterials.
  • Serve as a direct manager for Associate and Senior Scientists, providing mentorship, technical advice and professional development opportunities.
  • Direct the development and optimization of laboratory methods and techniques to improve MCA generation and processing efficiency.
  • Act as Study Director for animal experimentation, ensuring adherence to ethical and regulatory standards.
  • Drive the outsourcing of specific activities and services to external parties when necessary.
  • Initiate and cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance collaboration and project outcomes.
  • Conduct project-related literature searches and identify and implement innovative technologies to improve MCA generation, production, purification, and conjugation processes.
  • Ensure GLP compliant maintenance of laboratory equipment and facilities to uphold quality standards.
  • Oversee the documentation and reporting of MCA/Biomaterials activities, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide expertise in the organization's long-term strategies pertaining to MCA and biomaterials.

Your profile

  • A completed Bachelor’s, Master’s or higher degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related scientific discipline.
  • Strong and relevant industry experience, gaining comprehensive knowledge and expertise in (techniques used for) hybridoma generation, (recombinant) production, (affinity column chromatography) purification and conjugation (e.g. biotin, HRP or acceptor beads) of Monoclonal Antibodies and other Biomaterials used in biological assays for R&D and QC vaccine testing purposes.
  • Demonstrated success in leading teams with strong leadership skills such as vision sharing, strategic thinking, decision-making, and organizational sensitivity.
  • Experienced in managing, mentoring, and coaching teams while effectively prioritizing projects and allocating resources.
  • Good command of the Dutch and English language.
  • Living at a reasonable distance of Boxmeer.
