Job Description
We are currently hiring a:
Director Environmental and Sustainability Programs
This is a remote position and will be based in Plymouth Meeting or Jersey City (US), or Oss (The Netherlands). Travel to the Organon manufacturing sites will be required, along with occasional travel to meetings in the US. Total travel will not exceed 25%.
The Position
As a Director Environmental and Sustainability Programs you will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and management of Organon’s comprehensive environmental programs. You will also be responsible for development, implementation tracking and reporting of Organon’s sustainability initiatives. This role requires strategic vision, leadership, and collaboration across various functions to ensure regulatory compliance and drive continuous improvement in environmental and sustainability practices. You will have two direct reports, i.e. one Associate Director and one Senior Specialist.
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the execution of Organon’s environmental and sustainability strategies and programs.
- Conduct and oversee environmental assessments to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability regulations and standards.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to integrate sustainability practices into business operations in alignment with Company goals and values.
- Champion initiatives to support the company’s sustainability goals and ambitions, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and resource conservation projects.
- Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on sustainability practices and environmental responsibility.
- Prepare and present reports on sustainability performance and environmental impact to senior management and various stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, community groups, and industry partners to promote and enhance the company’s environmental compliance programs and sustainability efforts.
- Monitor and analyze environmental legislation and regulatory changes to ensure the organization’s compliance.
- Collaborate with various departments to integrate environmental policies into business operations.
- Lead a team of environmental and sustainability professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance management.
Required Education, Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience within the pharmaceutical, biochemical, chemical, petrochemical or process related industry, with 10 years of experience in environmental management, sustainability programs, or a related role.
- Demonstrated success in leading environmental compliance programs and sustainability initiatives and projects.
- Strong knowledge of environmental and sustainability regulations and practices.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and sustainability reporting software.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills
- Master's degree is preferred.
- Professional certifications such as LEED AP, CEM, or similar.
- Experience with sustainability reporting frameworks such as GRI, CDP, or SASB.
- Dutch and Spanish language skills are considered a plus.
