Job Description

In Life Sciences R&D / Physics and Electron Optics group in Eindhoven we are looking for a System Design Engineer III with expertise in electron optics to serve our ever-growing transmission electron microscope (TEM). The position will be part of a multidisciplinary research team capable of successfully performing various pathfinding and non-standard orders focused on developing new optical modules and/or enhanced functionality for high end TEM’s.

The successful candidate will pro-actively gain deep knowledge of the High End TEM systems and be able to routinely drive column and corrector alignments.

We seek a hands-on specialist with an innovative mentality for driving activities that will build differentiators for our future electron microscopy products.

Position:

  • Work on New Product Introduction (NPI) projects as they transition from concept through release according to development processes.
  • Responsible for the defining and performing TEM Optics design, test plans and methods of new and existing TEM platforms and compile results in documents.
  • Active role in defining TEM product or process improvements.
  • Define and implement test plans and methods of new sophisticated hardware/software components, and compile results in document.
  • Provide mentorship during the specification and design phase of new products.
  • Communicate frequently with project leaders on progress, technical issues and suggest alternative solutions. Also frequently communicates with GTS, OE and manufacturing project members to provide them with vital input.
  • Take ownership for the safety around the design and designated prototype/ system setups.
  • Sets up training and coordinates/trains Manufacturing, Sustaining Products and Service personnel in new product build, test, install and repair procedures. May develop issue resolution procedures.
  • Supports factory and field service engineers with first builds, installs and upgrades of newly introduced systems and modules to ensure accurate working order. This may require travel to various customer locations worldwide to support installations and upgrades.
  • Gives input for ongoing training for factory and field service engineers.
  • Implement issue resolution in factory or field service.
  • May provide mentorship or implement engineering changes to support factory and service as needed.
  • Ensure that ECO process WIP, cycle time and other targets are being met.
  • Develops close relationships with Manufacturing, Logistics, Sourcing, NPI Engineering, TSS, PLM, Quality, R&D and Application managers to adequately resolve technical conflicts.
  • Ability to set and build the right working climate.

Qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent experience in physics/optics, combined with the demeanour to continue to learn and (self-)educate on electron-optical physics.
  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary, highly technical environment that values personal growth and teamwork.
  • Experience with the development cycles in a high-tech environment is preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis and/or programming scripts is desired.
  • Occasional customer visits are vital to ensure product quality and capture feedback for improvements.
