Our Electron Microscopy business enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries, increase efficiency, and ultimately change the world. The EM business designs, manufactures, and supports the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales.
Combining hardware and software expertise in electron, ion, and light microscopy and with deep application knowledge in the Materials Science, Life Sciences, and Semiconductor markets, the worldwide Electron Microscopy employees are dedicated to customers pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.
The Mission
The Europe NanoPort team, within the Sales and Service Division (SSD), runs a state-of-the-art Electron Microscopy Centre of Excellence, supporting account managers and external Thermo Fisher Scientific customers in the Sciences and Industry markets. Key goals of the NanoPort team are to deliver high-quality Customer Applications Training and Support, and to conduct carefully prepared Product and Workflow Demonstrations.
How will you make an impact?
The Applications Scientist in the DualBeam applications team is responsible for providing technical expertise in the support of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Europe sales efforts at specific customer sites.
What will you do?
- Perform high quality DualBeam product demonstrations, including the development of new techniques and applications for Thermo Fisher Scientific partners and customers, particularly those in the Materials Science marketplace.
- Supporting and training customers after the sale and installation of the microscope. Customer training is primarily scheduled on-site on the customer’s instrument, but the candidate will support in-house training in the Europe NanoPort as well.
- Authoring and maintaining supporting training material.
- Acting as a primary communication conduit to the factory by reporting engineering and production issues from the customer. Foster positive customer relationships and serve as a high-level customer interface for specific instrument/applications issues, explaining sophisticated technology details, giving in-depth technical presentations, and assisting in applications development.
- Solving and reporting software and hardware issues and customer concerns.
- Provide continuous feedback to the product groups on system performance, features, and potential problems while collaborating with marketing/development groups on future product developments.
How Will You Get Here?
This position is ideal for an experienced scientist wanting to be involved with a diverse team and exposed to a constant variety of customer application areas. The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:
- Requires a university degree in Materials Science, Chemistry and or Physics.
- An advanced degree is preferred.
- Knowledge and recent hands-on experience with DualBeam Microscope are required.
- Knowledge of advanced technology diagnostics as well as problem solving techniques, operational optimization, and experience of analytical equipment; specifically, electron/ion microscopes.
- 3 or more years of experience in a relevant position within the research environment with recent experience using DualBeam technology is preferred.
- Experience with FIB chemistries, TEM prep, ASV, EBSD, EDS, SIMS, Patterning, Inert transfer, or Cryo would be ideal but willing to provide training.
- Excellent, interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
- Works well with multi-functional and cross-cultural teams
- Frequent travel, both domestic and international (up to 50%). Possession of a valid passport.
