Byondis zoekt een

Researcher Protein Mass Spectrometry

Nijmegen, Netherlands

Byondis is an independent Dutch biopharmaceutical company, based in Nijmegen, that focuses on developing innovative medicines against cancer and autoimmune diseases. We are driven by one goal: to develop new treatments to improve the standard of care for patients.

Your Role
The department of Analytical Development and Quality Control (ADQC) plays a key role in Byondis’ development and manufacturing because without extensive and accurate measurements, biotechnology-derived medicinal products cannot be designed, improved or applied. That is why we take pride in providing high quality analytical information to ensure the safety and efficacy of our innovative products in patients.

ADQC comprises a diverse and multidisciplinary team of about 45 people with in-depth knowledge and experience in various analytical technologies, ranging from chromatography, electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, microbiology to cell-based assays. Within the department methods are developed, qualified and applied to characterize new biological entities, such as monoclonal antibodies and antibody drug conjugates.

The characterization group within ADQC is seeking a highly motivated, experienced and curious protein mass spectrometrist that is responsible for the in-depth, non-GMP, characterization of the monoclonal antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates in CMC development at Byondis. Activities include the
development and execution of peptide mapping and sub-unit and intact (native) LC-MS methods for a variety of purposes, including support of release and stability testing, comparability, qualification of reference materials, etc. Next to that, providing troubleshooting support and addressing scientific questions arising during the early development of Byondis’ therapeutic products make up an integral part of the position.

What do you need to succeed in this role?
You are natural team player with an attitude to collaborate and communicate, both with your direct colleagues (peers), as well as with colleagues from other disciplines. You are flexible and able to act in a dynamic and demanding environment. You take ownership of activities with a focus on precision and quality of your own and your colleagues’ work. You are result-oriented, pro-active and creative to provide answers rather than test results. You are self-motivated which enables you to work with a high degree of independence.

  • A B.Sc./M.Sc. degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field. This is not a PhD-level position.
  • Relevant experience with qualitative LC-MS workflows for the characterization of biomolecules, preferably in pharmaceutical industry.
  • Solid background in liquid chromatography, affinity with two-dimensional chromatography is preferred.
  • Ability to acquire and process data of high resolution mass spectrometers (e.g. Q-TOF, Orbitrap) to provide answers steering the development of biomolecules.
  • Familiarity with data analysis software (e.g. Xcalibur, Masslynx, Skyline) is preferred.
  • Ability to summarize and communicate results in discussions with colleagues and in formal reports.
  • Willingness to continuously develop and expand your skills, knowledge and expertise and support your direct colleagues in doing the same.

Benefits and well being
Besides a competitive salary, we offer you a dynamic working environment at our state-of-the-art campus in Nijmegen.  Our values as integrity, authenticity, entrepreneurship, quality and trust are very highly regarded. We also offer a good pension scheme, 30 days annual holidays based on a fulltime position and we organize several company events throughout the year.
