Job Description

In this field‑based role, the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) severe hypertriglyceridemia (sHTG) is responsible for driving country medical activities in alignment with regional initiatives and the Global Medical Plan and proactively manage medical scientific stakeholders and create value for patients through medical and scientific stakeholder engagement, medical scientific projects and scientific communications for sHTG.

The MSL will initiate planned medical activities, including scientific presentations, discussion of clinical data and programs and educational programs. They will also be the liaison with the patient advocacy groups and lead local community engagement initiatives. They will also provide support to the cross-functional Dutch organization, including providing scientific input in promotional and educational materials.

The job involves interactions and coordination with various colleagues from the local and global medical teams, commercial teams, patient access and community engagement teams, as well as from various other functions (marketing, compliance, regulatory, drug safety and logistics).

Key Responsibilities:

Including, but not limited to the following

  • Identify, develop and maintain collaborative relationships with KOLs, scientific experts and other medical scientific stakeholders.
  • Compile, analyse, prepare and deliver high quality medical pharmaceutical and scientific communications in line with defined communication plans.
  • Create and execute stakeholder engagement plans, according to Sobi’s high standards.
  • Support country Brand team in developing local medical tactics and provide input to Headquarter (HQ)/regional plans if relevant
  • Support, organize and set up scientific advisory boards with the appropriate key stakeholders, in collaboration with the Medical Director and/or cross-functional team, as appropriate
  • Contribute and support medical scientific aspects in various activities locally and regionally.
  • Provide local and regional feedback to HQ when performing Business Development Due Diligence and competitor analysis.
  • Deliver inputs to head office led medical programs ahead of launch.
  • Coordinate Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISSs) as appropriate and Support studies on the local level
  • Coordinate medical information enquiries in collaboration with Medical Affairs/Scientific Medical Affairs and HQ in Stockholm.
  • Attend relevant local, regional and global congresses and symposia to represent Sobi and interact with appropriate stakeholders and customers.
  • Represent the scientific interests in internal and external forums and interact with KOLs at, e.g., hospitals and other Non-Governmental Organizations within the therapeutic area.
  • Maintain and develop strong relationships with scientific societies and central decision makers
  • Liaise with patient advocacy groups and the global community engagement team and lead local community engagement initiatives
  • Provide advice to the organization and management on medical matters and their legal implications.
  • Safeguard that the medical and scientific knowledge for the therapeutic area remains at the forefront of contemporary thinking; remain updated on therapeutic trends related to new and existing products.
  • Where required, manage external market research / consultancy vendors to support local activities, including epidemiological/real world data collection and patient support programs;
  • To ensure initial and continued medical training of cross-functional team members in the Netherlands
  • Facilitate and manage (un-)met medical need solutions within regulatory and legal framework if appropriate
  • Ensure ongoing completion of all required initial and ongoing training in local regulations and policies, and secure that all business operations are conducted in adherence to those regulations and policies, protecting the Company’s interests and minimizing or mitigating risks.

Qualifications

Education/Learning Experience/Work Experience

Required:

  • University Degree level education in a medical-science background or other, related and relevant discipline
  • Experience and track record in medical affairs, preferentially as medical science liaison, regional medical liaison, medical science manager, medical advisor, or similar
  • Proven experience in Specialty Care and/or lipidology
  • MD qualification and/or PhD/Research background is a plus
  • Existing strong engagement with lipidology network (second-line and KOLs) is a plus
  • Knowledge of health system and healthcare decision making, including regulatory, safety, legal and compliance environment is a plus

Skills/Knowledge/Languages

Required:

  • Fluent in Dutch and English (both oral and written communications), all other languages considered a distinct advantage
  • Demonstrated excellent scientific/medical reading, writing, presentation and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills, judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated networking capabilities with a track record in building relationships both internally and externally in order to be able to build successes collaboratively, based on understanding of the motivations and desired outcomes of the different stakeholders
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively within territory
